Jhulan Utsava 2011 Day One Celebrations at ISKCON Temple, Bangalore

Jhulan Utsava 2011

On the auspicious day of pavitra Ekadashi of the shravana masa (monsoon), the grand and colorful festival of Jhulan Utsava began at the ISKCON Sri Radha Krishna-chandra Mandir, Bangalore.

For Their pleasure, the Lordships are adorned in brilliance and seated on a Jhulan or a swing decorated magnificently with a variety of beautiful flowers. The festival commemorating the pastimes of Sri Krishna and Srimati Radharani on a swing is celebrated to practically reflect the manner in which devotional services should be rendered to Their Lordships. Hundreds of devotees thronged the main temple hall which was decked up gloriously for the festival.

ISKCON Jhulan Utsava 2011

The 5-day Jhulan Utsava celebrations began with a special arati offered to Their Lordships while the sweetness of kirtans, sung by devotees, filled the atmosphere with devotional spirit. After the arati the sevakartas received an opportunity to sway the swing and offer their devotional service to The Lord. They offered flowers and their obeisance to Their Lordships. The celebrations concluded with the Deities being taken in a pallaki or a palanquin around the temple hall for the shayana seva or rest for the day.

The Jhulan Utsava also known as the Radha-Krishna swing festival is one of the most popular events in the holy town of Vrindavan, where Lord Krishna appeared 5,000 years ago. Among the local villagers and inhabitants, the festival lasts for 13 days and hundreds of thousands of people from surrounding towns and villages visit Vrindavan to participate in the celebrations.

An open letter to Dayaram Das

Hare Krishna Dayaram Prabhu,

When this case started, that time also you did not have any personal fight with Madhu Pandit Dasa, and now also you don’t have any. All this you are doing to prove your guru bhakti towards your spiritual master. Is it not Prabhuji? After reading your letter to Maharajas and Prabhus, dated 5th June, some questions come to my mind…

  1. An ideal vaishnava will never act independent of his spiritual master. Following this principle, if you are fighting against MADHU PANDIT DASA as a service to guru then why is there a sense of fear in your letter that in case you lose then you will be scoffed at again? A guru just engages his disciples for their purification and asks them to depend upon Krishna. If Krishna does not sanction victory then why your guru has to scold you? However a disciple may be, guru will always treat him like a beloved son. Why do you doubt this nature of your guru? Is there anything wrong with him? Is he more worried about money than a sincere disciple like you?
  1. It appears that you are not happy with shelling out some money of yours to fund this case? But isn’t it true that disciple’s whole property belongs to the guru and should be engaged in guru’s service? Then naturally your property should be used to fight this case because guru’s order is life and soul of the disciple, and that is more important than the property. People should not think that you are more dedicated to property than to guru. Is your guru also distancing from you because instead of giving him money you ask him money?
  1. You also seem to be dissatisfied with your godbrothers and others. But in Iskcon relationships are based on love and trust. Is it not Prabhuji? Then, have they lost trust in you and thus they are backing off from this battle? Has their love for you reduced? You are the one who is fighting on the behalf of entire Iskcon society. They are the ones who pushed you into this fight, then how can they stop loving and trusting you Prabhuji? Or is that they never loved and trusted you, but just used you? If the entire Iskcon shouldn’t shower their love and trust upon a hero like you then upon whom should they??? If they are doing then why do you write a letter like this? Have you done something wrong for which they backed off? Or now only have they started showing their true colors? Or they have developed more love towards those who are giving money rather than asking money from them? Why your victory in High Court could not convince them? Please tell them that your penthouse is not acquired through their money. Apart from bhakti you have your own private business through which you have done that. Show them all your legal expense vouchers then they will learn about your integrity.
  1. Your letter talks only about money matters, and justifications on your actions; not about love and trust. Its not sounding the way a devotee writes to other devotees. So is it that there is a deal between you and Iskcon that you fight for them and they pay you for that. Are you hired? And are you justifying your actions so that they don’t stop whatever little fundflow is there? When its not your personal fight then and you don’t have any personal motives then why are you giving justifications like an accused? Its clear that you are dependent on their money… but for the case or for yourself?
  1. You don’t appear to be uncomfortable carrying on this fight… this is what your letter expresses. You say that there is no personal fight between you and MADHU PANDIT DASA. Moreover, there is no support from the rest of the Iskcon also. Then why are you fighting? You are an intelligent man and can clearly see MADHU PANDIT DASA’s truth also, still you are fighting against him. Why? If it is for your guru’s pleasure then why dissatisfaction in your heart? Or is it that you understand you are on a wrong path but cannot give up because it’s a question of ego of leaving the battle half way which is more shameful than a defeat? May be the people out there will call you names or harm you. Or is it that they know something bad about you and you want them to keep mum that’s why you are obliging? Or it’s a part of your earthly lila that you have taken up a role of an envious person to teach people in general about an envious person’s acts and his destiny. Just like Arjuna spoke before Krishna like an ignorant man for the benefit of the entire mankind, so that Krishna could disseminate transcendental knowledge; but you seem to have gone one step ahed and through your life you are giving demo of an ignorant man and later you will teach others about ignorant man’s destiny also, by personally undergoing all those sufferings. Wow! What an innovative preaching technique.
  1. One final question… on television you sound so bold and robust as if you are the protector of dharma. But in this letter what happened to you Prabhuji? You are looking very helpless and dejected. Or out of vaishnava culture you are showing humility? Or the TV thing was just a make-show? You have also mentioned about some patch up action to gain public sympathy. Which is your true color Prabhuji? We always thought that you are a very strong person in heart and straightforward in your dealing as you are supporting the real truth. We all look upon you as a person who is inside and outside the same. May be you are dovetailing duplicity in Krishna’s service.

Anyways its all beyond our understanding. Please enlighten us about your earthly pastimes in your present body. What we can understand with our tiny brains is that… MADHU PANDIT DASA’s IIT brain has created a wonder on HK Hill… like that your IIT brain is also expected to create a wonder that is far bigger than your penthouse… Prabhuji. Thank you.
